iPhone question
I am a AT&T customer currently, and I do plan on purchasing an iPhone soon. I was wondering if I could take the sim card out of my current phone and put it into the iphone and still use it with out any activation.

Sounds like a question for AT&T, but I suspect it may not be possible.

I'm wondering if you can use all the iPhone special features by simply swapping the SIM card.

From reading that thread, it appears you have to activate it with the specific SIM card your account is under to get it to do anything but make calls.

Apple and AT&T are trying to keep the iPhone locked up with "special plans" but the simple truth is that if you want you can buy an iPhone (probably cheaper on eBay) insert your SIM card and talk away. All of the iPhone features will still be usable, but will cost alot. If you have a Media plan already, then you shouldn't have any problems though.

In my experience SIM card swapping is somewhat detrimental to the performance of such a phone. I have an unlocked iphone and have unlocked numerous phones. That is definitely the route to take if you want to avoid all the costs of the iphone and even then i am not entirely sure of how it will affect you. My phone is paid for by work and we have AT&T so perhaps my info. is slighted towards that but i would imagine that visual voicemail wouldn't work as the same with some other parts. I can answer most questions about the phone and provide you with some places that you can get specific iphone help if you are interested just let me know. Thanks... good luck
