opinion on new computer (help choosing)
i brought a samsung went badly wrongh managed to get them to take it back so i think i am going back to dell i wont a ok laptop for 400-460

This Computer spec below comes in at just under £460
i could reduce the price by £20 by having 3gb ram instead of 4?
is 4gb ram needed or ?
should i get the same processor but 800MHz FSB instead, with 3Gb Ram for 470

BASE :Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5750 (2.00 GHz, 667 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache)
OPERATING SYSTEM :Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium - English
LCD :15.4" Wide Screen WXGA (1280 x 800) Display with TrueLife™
MEMORY4096MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048]HARD HDD :160GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
GRAPHICS: CARDIntegrated Intel® Graphic Media Accelerator X3100OPTICAL DRIVE
Disk Drive :8x DVD+/-RW Optical drive
BATTERY :6-cell 56WHr Li-Ion primary battery

For Vista preminm 3 gb will do.. You may have to increase ram if in case you will run emulators like Dynamips, VMware, MSVirtual PC, etc,.

i think i will use 3Gb as my old computer only ever used about 1.6 of the 2Gb i had

what to people think of £30 more for a 800Mhz Fsb instead of 667? from what i know the speed of the ram will limit the Fsb to just over 667 , am i correct and is it worth it ?

I can't imagine anyone "requiring" more than 2gig with Vista. I know it's a memory hog, but there's no real need for that much memory for any normal application mix. I run a VM of 512mb and a bunch of other applications on my Vista machine with 2gig, and it's never been starved for memory.

is it possible to downgrade to Vista basic? there really isnt much point in premium, basic is almost the best out of all of them, has the least bloatware pre installed as for RAM i doubt you would really need 4Gb right now, but... it may be worth it in the long run as its harder to upgrade laptops
