who's up to the challenge?
Alright tech heads, let's see if anyone can figure out this problem; so far, samsung, verizon, gateway, microsoft, and even the geek squad can't seem to find the answer.
I have a gateway laptop, running windows xp. I had a treo (palm ) phone, which I was never able to get to synch correctly with the laptop, though I did set up an imap and pop account for e-mails to be forwarded to phone via outlook. I have just purchased a samsung glyde phone ( not a smart phone) it it supposed to be plug and play, via usb cable, to synch with my laptop. I've loaded the verizon v-cast music manager on my laptop, I plug in my phone, I select files (music) on laptop to synch, yet when I hit "synch now" I get a message saying "your phone is not connected" the phone however says it is connected? The problem is in the laptop settings, because I did the same procedure on my wifes dell laptop, and it works perfectly. verizon tech suggested I rebuild my registry ( kind of scary for a non tech guy) but the geek squad guy said there was nothing in registry wrong? I'm out of options...anyone think this is fixable? thank you in advance.

I use a motorola razr with my computer... I have to attach it to a USB2 port.(that is the only way the computer recognizes it) My old Nokia could use either USB 1 or USB2. I suspicion that your wife's computer has the USB 2 ports and yours only USB1. Worth checking into anyway. Also, have you run the software for the phone?

Your phone should show up as a modem when connected (once 'discovered' by your laptop it should remain shown in Phone & Modems regardless connected or not, but will only show in Hardware Device Manager when connected - that's the way my Motorola RAZR works). So with phone plugged into USB port, open Phone & Modem Options in Control Panel and see if if it shows and if you can get your machine to recognize it.

I'm surprised XP doesn't at least recognize that it is connected whether it ID's it or not.

When I installed my razr, the instructions say that if it is NOT a USB2 port, the computer may not recognize it. That is why I posted what I did above in #2.
I agree with you tho, that if it is installed properly, it will show in the phone/modem,

vicks - good thing I didn't see that warning on my work laptop with USB1.1

It installed OK on the old laptop and the computers, the latter with 2.0. I don't recall any warning or message. You would think it would be backward compatible in any case. The only warnings I ever get on 2.0 USB when plugged into 1.1 is that it would perform better on a 2.0. May be not the case here,........who knows?

On the laptop I have a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card I would use if it gave me problems re 1.1.

I don't remember where in the installation process I got that but,
Because of that 'warning', I haven't tried to install it on our old laptop. Maybe I will now...

Just did a hugh (2 together and one 65MB third) update on the Motorola Phone Tools program on two computers and my old laptop with 1.1 USB. All went well, no error messages and works well with RAZR V3 cell phone.
