LCD Monitor BRIGHT!
Just got an HP L1706 for basically nothing (only four hours on it) and replaced my mammoth Gateway VX900 with it.

I really like it, but I kinda wonder why manufacturers set the brightness so darned high! This was right at halfway (50) and I put it down to 10, and still might go down to 0. The 50 was hurting my eyes so badly. Even 20 is too bright.

Any idea why manufacturers set the brightness so high? I've seen this on several other new monitors too. It just gives me a headache and hurts my eyes!

Edit: I just put it down to 0 and am thinking about playing with my video card settings to make it even duller.

This morning I put it back up to 10. 0 was a little dull. Might have set it that low because I was tired and it was 1 AM. I bet these cause major eyestrain to people with bad eyes who don't know how to adjust it.

I'll bet you're right. When I first got mine, I thought I needed sunscreen to use it!
