VOIP for business
Hello all..

I am currently with AT&T.. I have 4 lines.. and i am paying roughly 400 a month.. including the internet that is about 50 bucks.. so about 350 for telephone..

My question to you guys is what are your experiences with VOIP for business? pros and cons? Any any recommendations on companies..

I got a quote from Jive Communications.. the price and features are great, but the initial cost of buying all new phones kills it..

Any suggestions i would appreciate

Uni

I know several local small businesses that have installed VoIP, and they generally have good things to say about it.

I know places like www.vonage.com have unlimited business lines for $50/mo, and I suspect other VoIP vendors might even do a bit better.

You might consider separating the actual phone service from any PBX requirements, which may help in the pricing. Exactly how involved are your PBX requirements, maybe that's where all the costs are coming in.

PBX is short for private branch exchange, a private telephone network used within a company. Users of the PBX share a certain number of outside lines for making telephone calls external to the PBX. A PBX also allows calls between phones on the same PBX. A PBX may also handle voicemail.

Did Jive do any type of testing or evaluation of your network to determine whether or not it can handle the bandwidth? Generally business-class Internet services with high bandwidth cost a bit more than $50 a month.

Have you done a total cost of ownership, maintenance, business justification study/report etc.? There's a lot more to any major investment and infrastructure change/upgrade than the upfront costs.
