Costco extends the MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY to two years from date of purchase so you get that added part from them.

Boy your looking at the higher price ones I will never be able to buy.

For me I want to check these out http://www.costco.com/Service/Featur...uctNo=11329610
But I like the menu better on a Samsung and you hear they are good also.

thanks for the reply, but my family wants at LEAST a 60" LCD, and only a LCD since they last longer, there viewing angle is better, and they dont have a lot of glare.

I have both a plasma and an LCD mode. I disagree that the viewing angle is better on the LCD, and I don't understand the comment about glare at all.

As far as the life of a plasma, consider the manufacturer's stated lifetime is 60,000 hours. Practically, most folks consider 30,000 hours to be the real lifetime, which is when the brightness is down to 50%. If you watch four hours of TV a day, it will take you 20 years to reach the 30,000 hours, so I don't think the lifetime of the plasma display is a significant factor! If you watch 12 hours of TV a day, you'll still get 7 years out of the display. I suspect something else will go wrong with either type of set before you reach the lifetime of the display.

I actually prefer the plasma display, it's brighter, and has a viewing angle that's almost 180 degrees. The LCD certainly isn't bad, but in a bright room it tends to wash out more.

huh? as long as you get a good one with a decent refresh rate LCDs are fine. LCDs are by far better for the everyday situation, plasma is great for watching movies, the colours are more vibrant and brighter and whatnot, good for home theater, however the glare on plasma is much worse than on LCD screens, LCD supposedly does have a much better viewing angle, not like any of us are going to be watching TV from a strange angle anyway... As long as you get a good LCD it will last and it will be good, of course there are LCDs like LG and those brand that almost give LCDs a band name. As long as you get a good FULL high def LCD tv with a fast refresh rate (over 100hz is good) you will be happy.

I'm still not buying the glare issue. I have both types here, and I don't have any issue with glare from either of them.

I don't play games, and I'm quite happy with either type, but my pick for watching TV would be plasma.

I think may the glare may be the shining looking screen some models have. Some LCD monitors are the same way.
Like My 24" Dell Monitor does not have that shinning look but my sister 20" Dell monitor does have the shinning look to it.
I like the shinning look but the 24" does not come that way.
So it is something some people like and other don't. Now will other room lighting and light from windows effect them more by shinning off of them or not maybe so. I don't like any light showing up on a TV like over at my dads your see at times the patio door show up on the TV screen or the lamps. More so if your setting in one place then another but I hate that. His newer Samsung LCD is not as bad as the old Tube set but he always has the room lite up to much for me and a lot of people who watch tv so it is something we all have what we like and I don't like everything around the room showing up on the TV screen so keep the room dim and have it show the living window and the light coming in tru it will not show up on the screen.

We just bought an LG 42 inch and I surely hope it won't be the worst, but I am disappointed in the sharpness of it, it is washed out receiving with satelite. It is a 1080p
I just wonder if LCD TV's also make a difference, what receiver one has. For example, in the Store this same TV with a blueray disk showing was very clear. Pictures from the USB stick that can be viewd on LG (USB port) are very sharp.
So one has to consider everything.

An interesting question. I wonder if 1080p shows up differently than 720p on the same set. Since Verizon FiOS only broadcasts in 720p, I don't have any 1080p input source to test that. I know when I plug my laptop's HDMI port into the LCD at 1080p, the pictures look REALLY good.

had to jump in on this. if you've ever taken apart an lcd monitor, you'll see florescent tubes are used for light behind the lcd screen. in newer models, for an escalated price, you can get leds instead. lcd las limited viewing angles based upon the crystal configuration within the glass. they also have a response time, like 5 ms or milla seconds and are not the best on contrast ratios based upon the amount of individual segments with the crystal.

plasma is the charging of gas to a liquid or plasma state that emitts light. no response time lag, no viewing angle issue and has the truest color with the largest amount of contrast, typically 10,000 to 1 is the norm. latest plasmas have no burn in issues of earlier models and they have more than doubled their service life.

for more detail, see folowing:

http://www.plasmatvscience.org/theinnerworkings.html

to get the same benfits, you'll spend double on lcd for the same thing on plasma. it is the closest thing to a tube out on the market.

The comparison is in the eye
go to some big tv places and start looking
1080p is the latest so dont even look at 720
Both lcd and plasma are of good quality nowdays
the plasmas dont need a dim room like they once did.
lcd doesnt have the glare issue
plasma is going to win with the most accurate picture reproduction,
lcd has been closing the gap fast
They are both great now
As a matter of fact i chose lcd

Look for pictures that show proper flesh tones
look for pictures that can dispaly all the differant shades with dark scenes as well as bright scenes
many seem to overlook this.

Me i prefer the dull cabinet as to the shiney
i want an easy remote
i want enough inputs in the back to take care of my future needs
I want good sound
do not overlook the sound
there is nothing like an awesome picture with just fair sound

After all that google up the model you have chosen to make sure the reliability has been good by consumer reports or the like.

then buy the model you chose from the place that will save you money on that brand and model

actually, John, I phoned up Starchoice and -yes- they only broadcast at 720p.
Also I was told, not all stations have HD programming, another factor for viewing quality.
I questioned in several stores, why all tv's have the same movie running and they explained, they can't get a good enough reception (???hmm) inside the store so they show Blueray DVD's. I wanted to see a real reception and real comparison between Plasma and LCD but it is not possible.

My daughter is on cable with a Viewsonic 42 inch LCD and her picture is much crisper than mine. I have to ask to find out how she is receiving the signals, 720 or 1080.
I thought LG is a better product, I got sucked in beacause I am a gadget-nut and I love to be able to see my own photos with the USB stick (and play MP3's)
To Skyline, so you have to ask a lot of questions

To Skyline, so you have to ask a lot of questions
I have dish network
i recieve 1080i
there are pay movies with 1080p

it is just awesome, not all high def shows are created equal tho
it is also based on the cameras when filming,
the discovery channel stuff rocks
i get about 40 high def channels
it depends on the show alot of times
a 1080 tv with 1080 broadcast is just awesome
Dish does a good job of converting the standard def for my 1080 tv as well
Part of that is tv as well as not all tvs handle the converting in the same manner
