Solved: Question about MiniDV camcorders
So, I'm looking to get a MiniDV camcorder for my mom for Christmas. I've looked at a couple (a JVC unit and a Panasonic unit) and neither of them have an analog video output. In the case of the JVC, it didn't have a firewire output either.

An analog video output would be preferred so she could connect it to her analog tube TV and watch video she's shot.

If a MiniDV camcorder doesn't have an analog video output, what are the options for viewing the video on something other than the camera? Is transferring the video to a PC the only option?

Thanks!

Peace...

Could you provide specific models and links to the description? I thought most of them had some provision for analog video out. I sure wouldn't buy one without the IEEE-1394 output.

Here are some JVC MiniDV camcorders that don't mention analog video outputs at all:

Shows you how little I know about MiniDV cameras. The few that I've seen all had provisions for video out.

Yeah, I was surprised by the lack of analog audio out as well.

Well, it looks like I answered my own question. Even though the camcorders listed at the JVC site above don't mention an analog video output, one of those camcorders I looked at DOES have an A/V output which is analog.

Peace...
