Cost Efficient?
i have this Toshiba Satellite A45 Series, and it's been handed down to me from my uncle. He probably had it for 2-3 years, and i've had it for four, so about 6-7 years. And it's been good to me, for having seven years without any major issue. But recently, its been fritzing, and thought I have solved certain issues, and spent 100 on memory, it is now showing that either my lcd backlight is out, or my inverter is dead. i am not seeing anything.

So is it cheaper for me to continue repairing the laptop, or should i really save towards a new laptop or even a desktop?

Well for starters being that age you might find some of the parts you can not even get anymore and even if you can, it most likely not much cheaper than parts for the newer computer (depending on how far you are going to update, but you can get reasonable prices for new stuff or new laptops, but the latest stuff is likely to be expensive)

Then again it might, depending on what needs fixing if its cheap enough and able to get parts, to just get it going to type letters and do email it might be handy to have a back up in case a newer computer has problems just to keep in contact with people.

All depends on what you need to do to fix, if parts available and if not worth going any further with it or not, you can not really make an informed choice till you know exactly what is wrong.

But to fix a computer that old and use it for your main computer I think is pushing it a but much but going by your post it does not sound like it is your intention anyway.

My vote is go save some money for another computer not that my vote matters

Just my two cents worth

yeah, that was a total issue, the whole age thing. To find the memory for it was a pain enough. But it's bee good for the past years, and i have been using it as the main computer for the years i had it.

But i dont intend to upgrade it any further from what it is. If anything, I would like to simply buy a new laptop, keep the HDD on it and simply sell the rest. But alas, there are monetary restrains that doesnt allow me to be able to purchase a laptop (actually a desktop, since I don't really travel with it and it is usually in one set place)

but that also begs another issue: to build or not to build. The issue being is that i am also limited on certain equipments, and i know it is really easy to build one (being that i made one a few years ago), but it takes time and effort. Effort i can deal with, but the time is an issue, since i will be starting school again in a few weeks, and would like it before then. Hm, a predicament technology can pose to be.
