fax machine
trying to hook up a fax machine to a one line phone system but it has three separate numbers

Huh? How does a one line phone system have three numbers?

I think you have to be a lot more specific about exactly what kind of phone service you have and the exact make/model of the FAX machine.

If this is a digital PBX, you can't connect most FAX machines directly to it.

It can be done with "Distinct Ring" or what ever your particular phone company calls it. Some fax machines can be programmed to only answer a specific ring pattern.

Hi John. I misread your original question of "How does a one line phone system have three numbers?" as "How does a one line phone line have three numbers?". Sorry about that.
