"Blown" Vizio P50
I purchased a Vizio p50 plasma set two years ago at a computer show- it was a dealer model or something, they wanted to blast it out, I got it for $700; great deal, and it's worked perfectly for two years. Two weeks ago POP! Something blew, and the TV went blank. However, it came right back, and now the picture is still watchable but there is obviously damage, as there is bleed and color problems. Talked to the local repair guy (50+ years experience) and he said this is very common, best thing is to get it fixed, as even with a new TV there are no guarantees on not blowing out. The cost will be between $700-800.

I see around town that I can get a new TV for $1000 or so....does it really make any sense to fix it? Has someone had experience with this and can advise me? I am not desparate as the picture is watchable for now, so I can afford to wait a few months if necessary for a good deal. I would not even consider replacing the board myself.

Thanks!

Personally, I wouldn't spend the money. For not much more than $700 you can have a new set, here's the places to start your shopping.
