Solved: Unknown problem
Hey. I just recently encountered a probem with my 5-day old computer which is really worrying me. At first, when I bought it, everything was fine until around the third day when the computer couldn't detect the DVD reader. At the startup screen, the part where it usually showed my DVD drive was showing some repeated alphabets which obviously isn't my DVD reader. And because of that, the computer couldn't start in the sense that it didn't start Windows but just hanged at the startup screen of the computer(BIOS, I think-where the computer shows what drives and components are connected). The only way out of this was to spam my DVD reader's open/close button and hope that the computer could detect it. So then, it actually worked for quite a number of times. I tried to change my computer's boot order in the BIOS. I changed the first boot device from the DVD drive to the HDD but nothing worked so I left it. Then, then next day, the computer didn't even detect the DVD reader but Windows could start. When I go to My Computer, it only shows my hard disk but not my DVD drive. So I thought, nevermind first. Since I don't need to use it now. So I started the game Crysis and played for around 10 mins before saving my game and putting the computer into sleep mode. Around an hour later, I started my computer again and ran another game called Section 8. While playing, the computer suddenly rebooted but my monitor didn't display anything. It was just blank even though it was turned on. I tried to restart the computer a few times but nothing happend. Normally, when I turn on the computer, a beep could be heard but now, nothing. A friend suggested that it overheated so I left it off cooling down in front of a full blast fan. An hour later, I tried to turn it on. But, no difference at all. The monitor didn't display anything but the computer was running. I desperately need help.

my computer specs:
Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200 @ 2.20GHz
2.0GB RAM DDR2
nVidia GeForce 9600GT 512MB DDR3
Windows 7 Ultimate

Just wondering, how did you manage to play Crysis and then Section 8 without a DVD reader LEGALLY?

When I first had the computer, everything worked fine. That was when I started installing all the games I had. That's why when the DVD drive couldn't be detected, I didn't care much until now.

If it's 5 days old it should be under warranty, why not see if the supplier will do an exchange if it's faulty?

There is no warranty. I bought it with separate parts. A friend helped me put the parts together. So yeah, no warranty. Anyone that can give me help instead of asking me questions?

Hi,
Help comes in many forms, if you'd said to begin with that it was a 'self build' that would have been useful info ... not many mind readers around ... hope you soon get it sorted out.

Sorry for not telling that it was a self-built computer. I din't know it was important information. Thanks for helping 1002richards but I don't think the link you gave me is similar to what I'm facing now. The main problem is that the monitor doesn't display anything at all even though connected properly. Normally, a beep could be heard but now there's nothing at all. I suspect that the computer is running because the RAM, processor and graphic card is running but nothing is displayed on the monitor and like I just said, no beep sound when I turn on the computer. The problem about the DVD drive being not detected is unsure for me. Before the computer had serious trouble, when I checked in Device Manager, I could see my DVD drive. But when I startup the computer, the BIOS doesn't show me any DVD drive connected and also in My Computer. I was also confused. Thanks for assistance anyways =)

Well, thanks for trying to help everyone. The problem was solved. My house's power supply is to be put to blame. To be exact, the government. My house just wasn't supplied with enough power all the time. Therefore, I had to get an Automatic Voltage Regulator(AVR). It's pupose is to stabalize the power supply. Even though I am able to turn the computer on, sometimes, when the power supplied changes slightly, the computer will turn off like how it did at the beginning of this problem. So any games of file that I'm using, if not saved, will be gone. Blame the government...Anyways, what I'm still unsure about is why could I play for the first 4-5 days of purchasing the computer. The DVD drive's problem was because the DVD drive wasn't being read properly by the motherboard. All I had to do was unplug and re-plug in the SATA cable. Thanks once again.
