Solved: Laptop - Battery Care
I use my Laptop mostly with household power. [Rarely mobile]
Once charged, would it be best to remove the battery for long sessions whilst plugged into the main power?

Your laptop may not work at all without the battery in place. Generally, I do not think removing the battery would be very helpful anyway.

Every month or so you should run the laptop on the battery and run it out completely. Then re-charge it. Even outside the computer, sitting on a shelf it will lose power.

It is not a good idea to keep the battery connected to the charger all the time. If you are running on AC for an extended period of time, it may be a good idea to remove the battery. Overcharging is one of the most common problems with battery life. Depending what type of battery it is, it may need a "conditioning" cycle. NiCad batteries should be run all the way down before being recharged or they tend to "remember" the point from which they were recharged as their empty state and will not hold a full charge afterward. NiMH batteries have no such memory and like the newer lithium ion, do not need to be discharged all the way or conditioned. Charge cycles lower their lifespan. They only need to be "topped off" from time to time (NiMH can lose 6% a month just sitting).
