weird sound using my cordless phone
I've been experincing some weird sounds coming from my cordless phone as i am talking to someone on it. Its a shrieking sound that comes and goes, even when i am pacing the apartment thinking it might clear, if i find a free shrieking area...but i never do. Has anyone heard of this? At first i thought it might be my battery, but if i can talk and hear the other party, it cannot be the battery. I think i remember one time, someone said the frequency of the phone can play havoc with the pc...mine is 900Mhz. But this happens regardless if the pc is on or off...though my modem and router are 'live'.

This could be a lot of things. My cell phone interferes with my computer audio and TV. My cordless at one point had static. I had moved the base to another jack and didn't realize that I had no filter for the DSL on that jack, plugged in a filter and got rid of that noise. A dimmer switch for a ceiling light or fan can cause interference. Try to eliminate each possible cause one at a time. You may never find it, as it may be generated from another apartment.

Thanks, I've thought of all those things that you mentioned and i do have filters on all my phones, supplied by Verizon when i had them install my broadband setup with their modem. They couldn't tell me either what is causing the problem. In fact, the phones were OK for the first year without those sounds, with the same filters. I do not have a cell phone, but wondering if that could be the savior. Hate to setup a contract with a cellphone company, all for naught.

Replace the filter on the phone that is giving you the problem. If you don't have an extra just steal it off one of the other phones. I've seen them go bad on occassion.

I have tried that and replaced one still getting the noise..can't replace all 4 of them...I am just wondering if its the 900 frequency phone that is causing it...

Sounds like interference on the wireless frequency or the phone is dying.
