want to restore a pc to out of the box fresh
I want to restore a pc to out of the box fresh...It's a gateway..and xp home premium..I did the disk thing when the pc was new..so I have the disks gateway said I needed in case of a crash. Do not know how to clean up the hard drive short of spending a lot of money for clean up tools that I don't know how to use properly.

If you insert the Windows XP installation CD and boot your computer from the CD, you will be able to format the hard drive to delete everything that is on it and reinstall Windows.

If you made the Gateway restore discs, then you would boot from disc 1 and start the factory restore process, insert the other discs when prompted.

Back up your data (pictures, music, email, ect.) before restoring the PC,
