Solved: TV-VCR/DVD hookup
Hi Tech Support Guys,

I just purchased a JVC dvd/video cassette recorder player (model #HR-XVC12S). I have a Sharp 19" tv (model #19F-M50 which was purchased in 1994. We have basic cable, no cable box or converter box. I could not hook up the unit to the tv because the tv cable has a different plug. Is there an adapter that I can buy to convert the tv cable?
Hope I made myself clear. I'm not to knowledgeable about these things.

Thanks for you help.

Marian

Not enough information. You'd have to describe the inputs available on the TV and the outputs available on the device you bought. I'm guessing your options are very limited with a 16 year old TV.

Since this unit has no tuner, your options may be somewhat limited.

I looked up the JVC combo unit and see it has component and composite video outputs but no coax (UHF/VHF) output and I'm guessing the TV doesn't have a composite video input but only the coax (UHF/VHF) input.

IF (and that's a huge IF ) that's the case, you'll need a RF modulator (composite to coax converter). That should do the trick.

Since you have basic cable you will probably want to connect the cable from the wall to the TV at the same time the JVC unit is connected. If this is the case, you'll need some kind of coax switch box so you can switch between the cable TV and the JVC unit as the video source for the TV.

Peace...
