Solved: Battery in or out.
I mostly use my laptop on the main power.
It's fairly rare for me to use battery only.

Should I remove the battery - and perhaps charge it up from time to time - or what?

Someone left me with the impression that this was best - it could have been here at TSG.

Thanks for any advice.

The electric cord recharges that battery.

If it's a li-ion battery and you want to remove it, be sure that it's charged (70-90%). That way it lives longer.

It is best to remove the battery for long term use of the laptop connected to power. The issue is heat and overcharging, though most machines do a pretty good job minimizing overcharging.

I also keep the batteries out when I store the laptops so they don't get discharged by the residual current that is always consumed, even when the machine is off.

Just remember to put it in before you hit the street and expect the machine to work without a power cord!

It's okay....
I've bought a dozen or so power chords and joiners. I'm covered for a few kilometers!!
Seriously, I WILL have to be mindful of this and during a big download I'll stick the battery in just in case of a blackout etc.
Thanks.

Of course, ever month or so you should put the battery in and make sure it's charged as well so it's ready when you need it.
