Solved: My dvd writer/cd combo does not work on all dvd's
My dvd driver works for the most part. The only promblem I'm having with it, it doesn't recognize a 4.7gb blank memorex cd. Therefore I cannot record anything to the cd. My system is a compaq presario windows xp. I have no clue what is going on. Every other dvd or cd works, except a blank 4.7gb memorex, all blank memorex that have lower bytes, my computer recognizes.

What's the model number of that Compaq Presario?

If you don't know for sure, advise what the product number(P/N) and/or model number(M/N) on the sticker is.

Go into the Device Manager, then click the + in DVD/CDROM Drives

What's the EXACT description of the drive(s) listed there?

-----------------------------------------------------------

CD's have a capacity of 700 MB and DVD's have a capacity of 4.7 GB, so you're likely referring to DVD's and not to CD's.

Just a minor correction. But a "4.7gb blank memorex" is a DVD, not a cd.

In any case, have you used any other Memorex media in that drive? It's possible that media is not supported (it happens more than you would think). While all media should be usable, it is not. And Memorex is low quality.

The description for the dvd combo is a TSST corp CD/DVDW TS-H5552L. The serial number is mxf5460J23 for my Compaq Presario. I appreciate the help, thank you. This is the other infomation asked about my origanl post. Which was my computer does not recognize 4.7gb blank memorex dvd's. I'am pretty sure the model # is SR1625NX.

Re-read the first 2 lines of post #2. You failed to provide that information.

There may be a firmware update for that TSSTcorp TS-H5552L drive, but we won't know that until we confirm the model number of that Compaq Presario so we can check its downloads section.

Use a different brand/type of media and use a quality media. For SL DVD: Verbatim and Taio Yuden for DL DVD: Verbatim only

After you know that it works with a quality media, you can experiment with other brands to see what works in that model.
