Media Player Fits
I'm not sure how or why this started. I cannot run, install re-install or upgrade my windows media player. I've tried a number of fixes found elsewhere on this site but no luck. Im running win 98se.

SETUP_WM caused an invalid page fault in
module WMP.DLL at 017f:07683c5a.

try:
" go to the Start Menu and select Run...

In the small box that opens up type in the following:

regsvr32 msdxm.ocx

Now hit OK and repeat typing in:

regsvr32 dxmasf.dll

Now hit OK.

then type:

regsvr32 wmp.dll

Now hit OK and repeat typing in:

regsvr32 wmpdxm.dll "

regsvr32 wmp.dll -FAILED
Thanks Ohheck, thanks for helping, we almost had it.

regsvr32 msdxm.ocx - worked fine
regsvr32 dxmasf.dll - worked fine
regsvr32 wmp.dll -FAILED here's the error message:

RegSvr32 - This program performed an illegal operation and will be shut down, blah blah...followed by

RegSvr32- LoadLibrary ("wmp.dll") failed
GetLastError returns 0x0000045a

I've also notice that I cannot install any file downloaded from a web site. Everything is corrupted and won't unpack, go figure. Let me know what you think. Thanks again.

As a side note, illegal operations are essentially eliminated when you upgrade to Windows 2000 or XP. Protected memory space is a lovely thing!

That alone would motivate me to make the switch. I know that doesn't help your problem, but it will reduce the amount of general problems.
