Solved: Best free media player

I'm looking to replace Windows Media Player, and I want to find something that's versatile, functional, and most importantly stable.

I've tried RadLight, which was okay, but had lousy video capabilities.

Then I found VLC Media Player. Anyone interested in open-source software should check that out. It's an awesome idea, and it can handle just about any video format you throw at it, but I kept crashing it trying to open files.
Yeesh.

I'll probably check later releases of VLC [did I mention it was available on ALL platforms?] but for now, I'll keep looking.
Suggestions, anyone?

After reading the title of your post I was about to recommend VLC Media Player, but then saw that you've already discovered it. I love it and there is even a portable version at PortableApps. It has codecs for everything I've thrown at it without having to add any on my own.

It is pretty good, but either my computer sucks too much, or something, 'cause it keeps freezing and crashing on me...

What's wrong with WMP? It has made some great performance and visual improvements in 11.

Well, if I were you, I wouldn't want to ignore or cover up that problem, I would want to fix it. Wait a day and then bump it.

iTunes maybe? They have some new video support.. I haven't really messed with it, but hey, its a recommendation...

iTunes, iTunes, iTunes! I have it and i LOVE IT!!!! Just as long as you don't use the store it's completely versatile. If you have a MP3 player you can open it in My Computer, Then Drag and Drop out of the Librabry into the player (unless you use an iPod in which case syncing is automatic and more convienient)

Yeah. Doubt I can watch DVDs in iTunes. Besides, I hate apple.

Why so? I prefer Microsoft over the Mac... but I mean hey, Max OSX 10.4 is still a great machine.... you can't lie, the iPod is better than the Zune... and the iPhone will rock this world.
