You should link by cable your "Line Out" from your PC to your PC "Line In"
Then anything that plays out the "Line Out" can be recorded from the the "Line In".

Depending where your speakers presently connect you may need an adapter to also provide them with sound, as they may use Line Out as well.

I fail to see why you blame Vista for being dumb here though?

Is this a Vista Upgrade .. or did it come loaded with the computer ???

I can't get the audio recording to work on this Vista "upgraded" computer either...
But my XP boot works fine.

I'll bet you have a line out .. It's whats used to drive speakers.
haven't tried Kiwi's "Line out to Line" in my Vista boot yet.

BTW .. Welcome to the forum.

Warrior .. no sense doing this by PM (private message)

Since you've found your Audio line out .. and asked how to connect it ...
See here ... down to the end.

As far as recording audio in Vista .. I'm pretty sure the problem is in Vista.
As far as I can tell, the problem is in the Vista M$ Sound Mapper ...
or Realtek's inability to provide Stereo Mix as a recording source in their newer chips/software.

Anyway .... (if I'm right) ...
To work around this problem ... you have to wire the Line Out back to the Line In...
and choose to record Audio from the Computers Line In.
The link I posted was what was needed to do this ... from a previous similar problem.
Just click on the link.
Hope it answers some of your questions.

The fact that you have a custom built computer .. probably means you didn't get some drivers you might need.
You have duplicate posts going on here .. may I suggest you stay here at Multimedia.

Hang in here ... you'll catch on to how we might do things here at TSG

You'll need a cable that looks like Attached ...
Then connect the Line Out to Line In on your Computer.

You gotta a cable like this ???

The obvious fix here ... Is to move your XP to your new Custom Built computer.
Then wait till M$ gives us something that works ... or a couple hundred patches ... Whichever works.

That's what I'm doing.
My Vista drive is setting in a desk Drawer... waiting .. waiting .. waiting ...
