Exclamation CD/DVD witer not seen by anything but windows
I have a Dell XPS notebook (2 and a half years old). I'm trying to burn a CD using Sonic Record Now or Adobe Premiere elements and neither one of them sees my NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A writer. None of my hardware is new and it's all worked in the past. Since the last time I wrote to a disk I have updated Windows but I can't think of anything else that has changed. The device manager says the device is working normally. I had almost decided that the drive had given up when I tried writing to the disk using just windows explorer which worked great. I have been troubleshooting it for days now and I can't find a solution anywhere. I have done the following (most of them several times):
Unistalled and Reinstalled Record Now, used Registry Easy to clean the registry, tried to update the driver (no new ones), flashed the firmware with the newest version from Dell, gone back to the older firmware version from Dell, unistalled and reinstalled the windows driver, run the troubleshooter (no help there of course), done a system restore to before I last wrote to a disk (no change), uninstalled any other program I could think of that might write to a disk, started the computer in Diagnostic Startup mode (from msconfig), among other things I can't remember now. Nothing had any affect whatsoever!
It's not that the programs don't like the media, they don't see the drive. Record Now displays "No Recorder" and Adobe displays "No DVD burners detected". I also don't know if any external writer would work as I am traveling right now and I can't buy one here in Indonesia! I need to get this resolved so that I can get back to the video editing I'm supposed to be doing! Thanks for any help! If you need anymore info let me know.
