Videos freeze and cause lock up
I have been having a strange problem since lastnight. Any time I try to play a video file it will just freeze on the first frame. A couple seconds later my entire system will freeze and the computer it self beeps once. Twice the computer has completely rebooted itself after trying a video. I booted in safe mode and the videos play, although a bit choppy and with no sound.

This all started after I set up my new DSL. During the set up I ran AT&Ts set up disc, which failed, and did a system restore to a couple hours before. I then scaled back the restore when I noticed this problem, but it fixed nothing. I spoke with AT&Ts tech support and they said the disc would not affect anything related to video and after speaking with their very friendly tier 2 tech support, I was directed here.

Since encountering this error I have installed new codec, the Combined Comunity Codec Pack, installed new video card drivers, a Radeon 9800xt, and reinstalled my media player, Zoom. I am running Windows XP SP2. If there are any other details I can provide just ask, and thanks for any help in advance.

This morning I tested a video and it played fine, I went back and tried to watch something tonight and had the same issue. Please, anyone, help! I really don't want to format, and I don't even know where my install disc is.

My computer has taken to completely restarting when I try to play wmv files. It will play videos in safe mode. I disabled all start up programs in Msconfig and this still happens. Please, anyone, I really don't want to have to find a copy of Windows and format.

Well, unfortunately things took a turn dramatically for the worse. After one of the random restarts the computer failed to boot up at all. My hard drive doesn't even apear on the boot list, so I assume it's fried. It just boots to a black screen and says something about choosing the correct boot device, or inserting boot media. I didn't get a change to attempt the only suggested fix, but I appreciate the effort.

Extra info:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+
1 GB of RAM
I think an ASUS KV8 Motherboard
Radeon 9800XT
Win XP SP2

I looked in the Event Viewer and found an Error when it occurs. Description: Application Hang. Content: Hanging application zplayer.exe, version 5.0.0.0, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I am using Zoomplayer but this also occurs for Windows Media player.

I am running ESET NOD32 Antivirus.
