error message
Using Windows XP on my HP Pavillion, trying to open an email (OE) attachment with a .wmv extension. I get the error message: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control power". I've googled and tried a few things but so far no success. SO, time for TECH super SUPPORT GUYs!
I have many times been able to open these media film clips but recently I get this error message. What's happening? Thanks for any advice to help me resolve this aggravation.

Save the file to disk.
Rt-click the file, select "Open With", select WMP.
If you select the "Choose Program" Option, you can set WMP as the default in all cases.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure how to follow your instructions. When you say "Save the file to disk" which file are you referring to that I save to disk, and do you mean a CD-R? Could you please give me a little more specific, step by stet action procedure? Are you perhaps referring to the .WMV file which I can't open in my email? Thank you for your much needed help. joanbush

Right-click the attachment, choose "Save as".
Save it to a known place on your Hard Disk Drive.
Go the file location and follow the preceding instructions.

Thank you Hughv, I'm really trying to follow instructions. I did one thing, I right-clicked on the attachment .wmv file and under "save as" I saved it to a CD. And, sure enough, I was able to open the CD and view the film click. Thank you for that much. That enabled me to view that one particular email. How about the next email that comes, etc. with similar attachment. How can I respond to the error message: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. CREATE AN ASSOCIATION IN THE FOLDER OPTIONS CONTROL PANEL". How do I do that? "create an assoc. in Folder Options control panel?" Thank you for your help, I need it.
