alternatives to iTunes?
Hey guys.

Anybody know of a good stand-alone iPod manager that can run off of an external hdd?

Im looking to completely isolate my music from my computer and iTunes clearly dosent allow that.

P.S. Running on Vista with a 5th gen ipod

Thanks

Are you looking for an iPod manager that is a standalone device or something? Any software app you use will require a computer so I'm not sure how you can completely isolate your music from your computer if you need software to manage your iPod.

Peace...

Sorry,

Wasnt clear with my language. The issue is this:

Ive got quite a bit of music and an internal hdd that cant hold up. Im keeping my 45 gig+ of music on an external hard drive and im looking for something that can operate off of the external without installing anything on my computer. Ive tried putting itunes on the external but it keeps making some sort of connection to my computer and thats led to some strange errors, including erasing my library.

What Im looking for is something that can operate SOLELY off of the external.

Thanks

Ok, I better understand what you're after.

First, ANYTHING that you install WILL be installed on your computer, regardless of you installing it on your external hard drive or not. When you installed iTunes on the external drive, it probably still wrote some files to the C: drive, which you don't want to happen.

So, it sounds like what you're really after is a completely standalone application that doesn't require installation OR that won't install anything on the C: drive that you can use to manage your music and your iPod (or at least sync with your iPod). Not every application you run has to be installed first, CPU-Z is one example. Believe it or not, I believe I just found what you are looking for. I found that on this site.

I have NOT used any of this software myself so BE FOREWARNED AND TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Hope that helps.

Peace...
