Angry VLC Player
Seems like more often than not, I get the error message
"VLC media player has encountered a problem and needs to close..."
Actually, it seems to happen EVERY time I use it.

It has something to do with this:

AppName: vlc.exe AppVer: 0.8.6.0 ModName: libwxwidgets_plugin.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00166d43

Whatever that means.

Any ideas why this is happening, how to fix it,how to prevent this?

Yes, and I re-downloaded the latest build from videolan.org to be sure.

Yes, VLC Portable from portableapps.com does it too.

look here...
you could also try this here
The KMPlayer is a video and audio player for Microsoft Windows which can play a large number of formats such as VCD, DVD, AVI, MKV, Ogg, OGM, 3GP, MPEG-1/2/4, WMV, RealMedia, FLV and QuickTime among others. It handles a wide range of subtitles and allows one to capture audio, video, and screenshots.

Thank you for this, but I've still got to figure out why VLC keeps having this issue.

here's a couple things you could try if you haven't already.

1. open up vlc>settings>preferences...reset all ...then restart vlc

2. close vlc....navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\vlc\vlcrc
delete the "vlcrc" file (it will create a new one next time you open vlc) restart vlc

in explorer you'll have to set "show hidden files" to be able to see the app.data file...
explorer>tools>folder options>view...check "show hidden files and folders"... apply>ok

try an older version of vlc here

Should I disable Explorer context integration, and if so how do I do this?

The dll error your gettting is related to a plug in. You need to indentify what plug in uses the libwxwidgets_plugin.dll and remove it.

Does this mean I should be using the "skinnable interface" or checking the related options in the prefs menus?

for two days i used the skinnable interface with no problem. now i can't even launch vlc without the encountered-a-problem message popping up. this must have happened 10 or 20 times in a row already. this time the alleged faulting module is libaccess_http_plugin.dll or something along those lines.

AND it happens to VLC Portable as well.

I'm trying to watch "Shoutcast TV" and I think that's got something to do with it. But it works - or was working until it hung - on Winamp. I don't want to use Winamp, I want my [expletive deleted] VLC Player.

Winamp also seems to have revamped their Shoutcast section. I do not like it. "Most popular" streams? Gag me.

Anyway, I'm trying to get help from the VLC community, because a search of their site, as well as a Google search, turned up nothing.
