Sound on DVD RW drive all messed up, how to install a new one on laptop...
I know already that I have to install a new drive on my Dell desktop, but now it seems as if the drive on my laptop is also finished. The sound makes everything sound like it is underwater. So I thought it would be easier to change the one on my laptop first, since I don't have to go through disconnecting everything. It is a Dell Inspiron E1405. Is it better to order a new drive through Dell, or do you recommend other better drives that are compatible with Dell? Will instructions come with the new drive, or will Dell provide step by step instructions on their site? I have installed additional memory and also an ethernet connection (can't remember the technical term for that part) on my old HD, but it's a little scary opening up and installing something on my laptop and my new desktop.
Any suggestions or tips are greatly appreciated.

why do you want a new harddrive for a sound problem ????

how New are these, are they still under warranty,

Go onto the Dell website and use your TAG Number, should be on the laptop somewhere and update the sound drivers

I didn't say a new HD, see my post heading, I said a new DVD/CD ROM drive. Isn't that also called a drive? I think I downloaded all the updates, but I'll check again. But I do need a new DVD/CD ROM drive on my desktop because it does not burn DVD's and it should.

if your cd/dvd drive isnt burning dvds it may be a read only drive or just set up to burn cds only. and yes it is called a drive and is totally separate from a hard drive. they are 2 different things.on all of my computers my cd/dvd drive is listed as (D).did u get your sound problem solved? if not go to your volume controls and make sure all of the sliders are up and that nothing is muted. or go to the device mgr and make sure there are no yellow question marks. if there are check for updating the hardware. hope this helps u.

Yes I already posted about the DVD/CD drive on my desktop and I found out it is supposed to burn DVD's. I never had used it to burn a DVD, only CD's, and when I tried it wouldn't burn DVD's. I tried everything with my DVD/CD drive on my laptop to try and fix the sound. I hadn't changed anything and all of a sudden the sound is messed up. I downloaded updates, drivers, played around with all the sound adjustment, and it's only when I play DVD's on there, otherwise the sound is fine on my laptop. So I posted here thinking it might be easier to change the DVD/CD drive on my laptop first, because I don't have a bunch of stuff to disconnect, before I replaced the DVD/CD Drive on my desktop. I just don't know what type of drive to buy and if I should just stick to DELL and will they give me good instructions on how to do it.
