Solved: iTunes stutters when I type
Hey, first time poster, so go easy on me

Just bought a new pc with vista basic. I was and still am a vista skeptic, so I was never expecting everything to run perfect

Copyied my music library from previous pc so i know its not the fault of the music. But whenever I playback music AND type on firefox/internet explorer/microsoft word etc, I get these tiny stutters in the music. They are persistent and always occur in different places in the music, and only seem to occur when I'm typing

Ive tried playing back the files in itunes and Windows media player, and played music online, they all have the same problem, and its driving me crazy

Also: I have a ps2 connected keyboard and my pc has a realtek hd audio driver installed, if any of that is relevant

Cheers for offering such a great service!

I had the same problem 2 weeks ago when I built a new PC using a Gigabyte motherboard, an older X2 3800 dual core processor, 4GB of PC8500 RAM and Vista Home Premium. My iTunes library is very large and memory intensive.

I started by adjusting the the speed of my memory to the correct settings in BIOS. That helped a little, but didn't solve it and it was driving me nuts. At this point, I did a whole slew of work, so I'm not sure i which one of these did the trick, but it did fix it.

Check to see if there is a BIOS update for your PC. My motherboard actually had a BIOS update that addressed some sound issues. Check to see if the BIOS settings of your processor are at its full potential. I started with an X2 3800 processor and used it for a few hours, then bought an X2 7750 Kuma. The "Auto" settings in BIOS only had the processor running at 2.4ghz, but once I set the multiplier, I had the processor running @ 3ghz.

Those 2 things did it for me, the clicking/stuttering went away. Just not sure if it was the BIOS update or getting the processor & memory settings correct.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply

I cant find a bios update for my pc, and while i didnt want to fiddle with bios too much for fear of rendering my pc a brick, i tinkered with the settings

But ive still got the problem

Thanks for the advice though!

You won't brick the PC by adjusting the BIOS, but you can brick the PC by updating the BIOS.

Before I made adjustments in the BIOS everything was off. My memory was only running @ 800mhz and the processor @ 2.4ghz. By simply adjusting the memory settings, the memory changed to 1066mhz. By adjusting the cpu multiplier from "auto" to 15, by processor speed jumped from 2.4ghz to 3ghz. I think these changes solved my problem more than the BIOS update, as I think the BIOS update was more for the onboard HD sound, which I don't use because I use a Audigy sound card.

Hey thanks for the reply again

Started noticing that the music would slightly stutter when i was doing other things as well, so not just typing as i first thought

Im starting to think its to do with the integrated graphics in the motherboard, which is straining the processor with my large itunes library...or something.

Cheers again. But i now concider this question answered. Mainly cause i now realise its wrong...
