I have two sound problems, which may or may not be related.

1) I have no sound coming from the internet. Firefox, all the latest versions and patches. YouTube and the like will play video but no sound. I've read at least a dozen threads in this forum about exactly that, but nothing has fixed it (KLite Codec Basic pack, wavemapper regedit, etc)

2) I play EVE Online, and while I get rear channel sound, I get no main channel sound. Their loading screen plays sounds fine, but as soon as I get in game, the main channel drops out. I've petitioned their GMs, and after a DxDiag they informed me my sound and video drivers were out of date. I checked with Asus' website, and the one I have installed (5.10.1.6110 1/16/2007) is the latest they have. And just on the off chance, I downloaded nVidia's latest drivers as well, but it hasn't made any difference either (version 185.85).

Asus board M2N-SLI Deluxe, Socket AM2 motherboard
SoundMAX Integrated HD Digital Audio
Windows XP SP3, all updates from Windows Update.
GeForce 9800GT

I've been to Microsoft's forums, these forums, Asus' site, Soundmax' site... I'm worn out. Help?

Is your main volume for your speakers turned up? (start - control panel - sound and audio devices) And can you post a screenshot for when your in (start - control panel - sounds and audio devices - audio (tab) - and with the drop down box showing for sound playback default device box.

I wish it was that simple :P Believe me, I checked all the obvious stuff before I started any of this.

The only entry you'll find in that drop down is SoundMAX HD Audio.
