I just set up Trillian Pro and was all excited to video IM with my pen pal using it. She is using Windows Live Messenger as I was and so she showed up in my contacts in Trillian.
I initiated the call and proceeded to prompt her to star a video conference on her end.Trouble is, she told me that when she tried to do that, that she got some kind of incompatibility message. I thought that if you used Trillian and set up your MSN account in it that you could IM with others with MSN, but apparently not! | | Senior Member with 127 posts. | | Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: Neverwinter Experience: Intermediate | | What version of trillian are you using? | | Senior Member with 418 posts. | | Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Yuma, AZ Experience: Intermediate | | I am using version 3.1 which came out in November of 2008 | | Distinguished Member with 3,647 posts. | | | | Are you both using the same version of Windows Live Messenger | | Senior Member with 127 posts. | | Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: Neverwinter Experience: Intermediate | | @Megabite
He said that he's using Trillian.
@janlafata
Maybe you should try Trillian Astra. It's the upcoming version of trillian and has been in development for quite some time now

Although I'm still not sure about this, there is a chance that my Microsoft Lifecam just may not be compatible with Trillian, though I'm still trying to find out some straight answers on that. I also discovered that I had a proxy setting in Trillian set to Yahoo, though I'm not really sure if that means anything. I have since turned off that option for a proxy.
Also Megabyte...Tell me a little more about Skype! Can you do video conferencing with that and can you connect to all the big IM's? | | Distinguished Member with 3,647 posts. | | | | No...at the moment you can only have a video conference for 2 but can have more for just voice.....as you a probably aware I have never used Trillian myself.......I should think your webcam is compatible...it must be another issue....have you tried any other users you know?
Why not try connecting through Messenger first with your webcam and see if there are any problems

#10 | I'm not sure I understand. So your saying that, with Skype Videoconferencing, you can or can not connect with other IM's like Windows Live Messenger or Yahoo etc?
I have successfully connected with my webcam with Windows Live Messenger, that's not the problem. The only reason I even tried Trillain in the first place is because, I'm not happy with the preview video I get of myself in Messenger. The movements are jerky and not in tune with what I'm saying.
And what I'm trying to find out is, is that what my friends is seeing on the other end. I asked her what the quality of the video she's receiving looks like, but she doesn't speak that great of English and is not very tech savvy so I'm not sure what she's seeing.
I tried calling Microsoft the other day to ask them about the preview issue and typical Microsoft, they screwed up and patched me through to the wrong person!
Also, the only reason I'm concerned about my webcam not being compatable is that I found a page on the Trillian site that listed some webcams amd mine was not on there, though they were quick to add that they knew of no webcams that didn't work!
Also I did a search on Google for the words Microsoft Lifecam and Trillian and saw a few posts of people saying that the Lifecam did not work on Trillian for them. I've also not had a lot of luck on the Trillain forum getting a straight answer. | | Distinguished Member with 3,647 posts. | | |

#11 | Yes Skype works with most IMs.....but it is best if the person on the other end has skype also and makes an account name...they can still use what ever email accounts they have.........I found skype better quality than messenger....but it also depends on what you have your camera setting at and bandwidth you have and the other person has | | Senior Member with 127 posts. | | Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: Neverwinter Experience: Intermediate |

#12 | Okay, this is the first time I hear that skype works with other IM clients. That was the reason I stopped using it in the first place (because it didn't). On the homepage it is not stated anywhere that it supports more protocols.
Other IM Clients with multiple protocol support include:
- Pidgin but video support is still in development
- Digsby (no video support I think)
- Trillian Astra with video support (upcoming Trillian, this seems like your last resort)
