Unhappy Solved: No sound, but my mic works
Hi,

I'm using Vista 64. And I have a really weired problem. So here's the story:

I got attacked by something called Zango, so my Norton deleted it, but at the same time, my comp got really slow and then everything hung up, so I restarted my computer. It restarted fine, but I now have a slew of problems.

1. I have no sound. I checked, I'm not mute, all the things I can find about my sound status state that sound is being sent out. Unfortunately, neither my speakers nor my headphones are recieving any sound whatsoever.

2. I tried to system restore, but after 5 failed attempts at restoring to different restore points, I don't think that's going to work.

3. I checked my mic, it records... and when I checked it at the menu for my soundcard (some realtek interface that i am now unable to find after No.4), The direct mic playback works...

4. I uninstalled and re-installed my soundcard driver. It still doesn't work...and Now I can't find the interface with all the speaker options. Also, I tried to update my driver, but it's the latest.

Ok, I admit, before the Zango thing I did some stupid things too, I tried downloading some LAME mp3 encoder so my Audacity could export mp3. It required my to put it in my Windows system folder. It didn't work so I deleted it, because it never asked to overwrite any files or anything. So that could be a factor. I'm running a full system virus scan with norton now, but I doubt there's anything wrong there...

EDIT: Norton finished the scan, nothing found... Also, in the middle of all this nonsense, before I lost my sound, Java did an update as well.

Please Help!

ok solved...apparently, I was running the sound from digital output as my default instead of speakers...although I have no idea what this means :P
