Ipod/Itunes question
Hey all!

Hope someone can help me out here. I have an ipod classic and itunes installed on my computer. I have like 60GBs of music. I'd like to free up space on my computer so I copied my music onto an external HD. I don't use my computer to play music, cause I have a docking station for the ipod.

Can I delete the files off my hard drive, but not remove the songs from itunes and still have them stay on my ipod? I want to free up space without having the songs deleted from my ipod.

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

If you already moved the songs to an external hard drive, yes you can delete the songs on the internal drive. But you need to make sure a couple of things are done first if you want iTunes to function properly.

1. You need to point iTunes to look for the songs on the external drive, otherwise once you delete the songs on the internal drive, iTunes will show all the songs missing. If you go to edit->preferences->advanced, you can change the iTunes music folder location to the external drive. Once that is set, iTunes will know where to look.

2. Once the songs are on the external drive, you will need to make sure the drive is connected and on everytime you start iTunes, otherwise iTunes will again show the songs missing. You don't want to connect you iPod when songs are missing, otherwise it will remove the missing songs from the iPod.
