Copying Specific Files From a DVD
How can I copy the video used with the menu on a movie DVD? I have Windows XP Home Edition. I don't have a DVD burner with my CD-ROM drive. I just want to copy the short video file onto my hard disk and be able to play it back.

Have a search over at videohelp; you'll find the tools you need there as well.

Yeah, as long as it doesn't have any modern copy protection...

OK, I'm confused. Do you have a DVD reader? A CD reader isn't going to help you.

If by "reader" you mean DVD player, yes I do. The computer came with Cyberlink PowerDVD.

He meant DVD drive but if it came with PowerDVD, chances are excellent it is also a DVD drive.

Unfortunately, that falls into the 'copyright violation' section of the rules:

Quote:
Circumventing Copy Protection - While we believe it's reasonable to make backup copies of CDs and DVDs that you own, a lot of people break copy protection for the wrong reasons. The law is still vague, at best, as to if it is legal to break copy protection in order to make such a backup, even for personal use. (The DMCA, for example, seems to make it illegal.) As a result, we do not allow discussion of how to break copy protection at this time. If we can find a nice way to draw the line, we may reconsider this in the future as laws get sorted out.
going to close this one out.

thanks for understanding,
