Question Sonic-RecordNow
Dear Sir,

I am running a 3 1/2 year old Toshiba Satellite P100 Notebook Core Duo T2400 (1.83GHz 100GB HD 1GB Ram DDR2 & using Windows XP & Trend Micro Internet Security Pro both fully updated. The burn program is Sonic which includes DLA & RecordNow. I have been regularly experiencing Blue Screens of Death (for want of a better description). My technition said RecordNow continues to run in the background after being closed and while that is the case you can't reopen it. Furthermore I should uninstall it and replace it with another burn program eg Roxio or Nero. However internet search of both these programs causes me some concern because of some bad reviews of both those programs and their manufacturer backup. Another issue is whether following an uninstall any residual elements of Sonic that may be left behind such as DLA might cause compatability problems with any new burn program I then install. Can you help particlarly with advice as to what burn program I should go with.

Regards

To get rid of Sonic and it's components uninstall the following programs that you may or may not have:

Sonic RecordNow!
Sonic DLA
Sonic Update Manager
Storage Guard

DLA runs in the background, so before you uninstall it go into Task Manager > Processes tab, select DLA and click on "End Process".

See if that stops the Blue Screens of Death, if not then there's something else causing them, but at least that eliminates Sonic.

To replace Sonic get CDBurnerXP, a good freeware burning program.

Question Sonic-RecordNow
Dear Stantley,

Thank you for your advice re uninstalling the Sonic program including - RecordNow, DLA, Update Manager & Storage Guard and replacing them with the burner program namely www.snapfiles.com/get/cdburnerxp.html. I should have mentioned earlier in my original thread that the technician had run a comprehensive diagnostic scan of the computer hardware, software updates plus spyware/virus protection software and could not find any problems. He was even able to burn those photos from 'My Pictures' that either by themselves or in conjunction with Sonic-RecordNow were suspected of causing the blue screens of death.

Kindest regards

Question Sonic-RecordNow
Dear Sir,

I should have mentioned in my original thread that my technician has done a full disgnostic check of the computer hardware, updates and spyware/ virus protction scan and found nothing other than the problem with Sonic-Record-Now. If I do this ie go to "run", type "cmd" and then type sfc/scannow and hit enter what can I expect / looking for given the testing done by the technician.
