Solved: Capturing video onto a DVD with Windows MovieMaker
Can you burn video from a camcorder directly onto a DVD? I only see the option for CD-R and CD-RW. And when I select the destination do I just select the drive for my DVD ROM?

It depends on the version of your operating system. XP doesn't have any integrated DVD burning software (only cd burning software), so XP's Movie Maker cannot burn dvd's (I really shouldn't say "cannot", if you have nero, roxio, or another dvd burning program, you can go through a bunch of settings and regedits to enable xp's mm to burn discs, but it's really much more trouble then it's worth). Vista on the other hand does, so it's MM can do dvds.

You can always make/edit your movie in MM, then save it to the computer, then use a program like dvdflick to burn it onto a DVD.

I downloaded DVD Flick but when I went to open up the video I downloaded onto my computer it said it is not a valid DVD project file. Is DVD Flick for burning copies of a DVD?

I had CDBurner XP on my computer, so I tried the CD/DVD compilation burner. It seemed to burn and then finalize the disc, but when I went to play it on my DVD player it didn't work and it said error.

How did you import the video into the program? If you tried to import the video as a project file, then yeah, it's not a valid project file. Import it by clicking the "add title" button, in the upper right corner.

This could be caused by a lot of reasons. What type of disc did you burn (CD, DVD+R, DVD-R, or a DVD-RW)? And are you positive that your "stand alone" DVD player will play that type of media?

Thanks. I figured out the first part by selecting Add Title. I don't know what happened the first time, but now I'm able to burn DVDs and play them on both of my DVD players.
