no video software working properly (being driven mad)
windows XP
WMP, real player, vlc, itunes etc all load OK and play the audio but there's no video, just a blank screen (static for itunes)
all working fine a few days ago.

Since last working well I have:
installed Epson pro 3800
logitec cordless mouse and keyboard
new EIZO monitor
disconnected an old computer that was sharing my old screen/speakers

have tried:
system restore to a time when it worked
re-installed VLC, wmp no change
changed monitor cable
changed resolution of screen
pulling hair out

additional info:
photoshop etc works fine
youtube can be viewed
if I save something from youtube via real player I can play it on real player
previously downloaded files no longer play
no error messages appear
if I try to use movie maker the files won't play (photo compilations) in the preview window nor when saved and played via other players

I'm seriously at wits end........
