Unhappy RealTek AC97 Line In Signal Too High
I have a Packard Bell laptop with an onboard RealTek AC97 Audio CODEC sound card. It has two audio inputs, 1 line in and a microphone in. I am having problems trying to convert vinyl to digital. I am using the Line Out(Tape Out) on my amplifier and feeding it into the line in. I have also tried the Mic in, just in case.

I am using either Audacity or Spin It Again. However whichever I try I get way too much input signal. I have turned the Windows/RealTek Line In volume right down and also the Record Input level in both pieces of software right down. Even with this I am getting the recording levels maxing out.

Please note I have previously done vinyl to digital conversion using the same Amplifier Line Out going into a desktop machine with a Live Soundblaster Card using the line in. This worked fine and there was no problem with excess signal. This in itself shows that there is nothing strange about the amplifier output.

Any suggestions
