Solved: 2 Problems - One Video, One Audio
Hello,

I am asking both questions here, since they started happening around the same time so...

First - I started to play Borderlands for the PC recently and once in awhile (not all the time mind you) the game will lock up for a few moments because my Realtek HD Audio Manager is trying to notify me via balloon message in the systray that "A new device has been plugged into an audio jack" - even though nothing has been added or removed.

Secondly, Windows Media Player 11 (Win XP - SP3):

My problem is that video files take roughly 5 seconds to start and WMP freezes for about 5 seconds when I try to shut the video down.

Now, I know I have had this 2nd problem once before in the past - but for the life of me I can't remember what I did to remedy it.

Tried googling around to find some answers - the first problem always talks about shutting down the jack sensing options (but my manager and that they show in the screenshots are very different looking and as far as I know I have the latest version so..) and the 2nd problem just leads me to tons of xp startup / shutdown issues and not WMP issues lol.

Neither is of critical importance, but it annoys me when there are little issues like these on my system and it's not running the way I know it should be.

Thanks in advance,

Ej.

P.s. Technical Info:

Windows XP Pro SP3 (32bit)
AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 3600+
2G Ram
Asus M2N-X Motherboard
GeForce 8600GT Video Card

1. http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
download the latest drivers for your card

2. Try VLC Player Instead

3. Run a Full Scan With Malwarebytes

No offense and I appreciate the replies...

1. I have VLC and using it doesn't fix the problem with WMP which didn't exist a couple of days ago =)

2. I have ran a full scan with Malwarebytes as well as Sophos. Both clean.

3. Now .. My video card drivers I COULD technically update...However, nvidia has a recurring issue with their display drivers and some versions it pops up and other versions your ok (depends on your card really) so far the driver version I have in has worked for me for the past year - If I knew that the 1.91 (I think that's the latest) drivers wouldn't give me any grief I'd update no worries.

4. Everything is fine in DxDiag and I have no virus on my system.

-------------------------------

Personally I believe both issues to be sound related, and I am almost positive they are both being caused either by the onboard sound card, or the drivers of said card.

Perhaps I'll just go out and buy a proper soundcard today and see how that works out.

- Update:

Disabling the onboard sound and replacing it with a proper soundcard has solved both issues.
