After Windows 7 Upgrade Some WMC Recorded Shows Inaccessible
When I upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista, 3 of my recorded TV Shows in Windows Media Center became inaccessible to me.

They were recorded in Vista Media Center along with several other shows and movies. All of the other files work just fine but these three. They files start playing the commercials that were on before the movies but then when it gets to the point of the movies starting I get an error that says I don't have the permission to watch them because they are copy protected.

I spent an hour with a Microsoft support tech the other day. Buy he wasn't able to help. As a matter of fact he kept trying to update my DRM file and wasn't able to figure out how to do it. Finally when I took control of my computer back from him I showed him how. I renamed the DRM folder backupDRM and then went to the Microsoft website and was able to do the upgrade. So he wasn't much help. Plus the upgrade didn't fix the problem.

Other people have recommended using every media player under the sun - PowerDVD, VLC, etc. but none of them work. It seems like I somehow lost the license to play these movies.

Is there anyway to get it back? They are not ripped or downloaded or anything like that. They were legitimately recoreded using Media Center (they are dvr-ms files) on the same PC that I am trying to play them back on. They worked fine before the upgrade to 7.

Thanks!

Tim

I came across that info from MS. But I didn't change any hardware or move the files. They just stopped working when I upgraded and give me the message "Windows Media Player cannot play, burn, rip, or sync the protected file because you do not have the appropriate rights."

I tried the FreeMe2 program. It says the file isn't protected. Under details of the properties of the file, it says its not protected either.

I don't get it. All my other dvr-ms files play just fine but these three. UGH.

I was wondering if it is possible to download them again (say overnight) and get the latest licenses for them?
