do you want playback of audio on the mp3 device?

If so you must convert it to mp3...

Use any audio converter... its free... (I would personally convert to wav with any audio converter then encode it with a name brand encoder such as itunes or lame)

Or do you just want to use it as a flash drive?

We downloaded both dolby audio converter plus mp3 down loader. We have the music contained on the hard drive somewhere. Does it need to be in an actual folder and how do we then transfer said folder to mp3 player which is plugged into ussb port. The file is in a compressed format within our documents.

the device should show up in my computer as a removable device...

If there is sufficient space simply dragging and dropping the file on to the device should work...
