Solved: Convert WMV with surround to VOB
I have no idea where I should post this, so I hope I found the right spot. I am trying to burn a DVD. I made a film in Vegas using 5.1 Surround and saved it as a WMV. (Only format that keeps the surround) My problem is that I am using DVDStyler to burn my DVD. I have tried several times to get the WMV to burn, with no positive results. (WMV is NTSC compliant) I have a VOB file with 5.1 surround (one of those Dolby Surround things at the beginning of movies) that burns just fine by itself. The file has ac3, 5.1, 48000Hz audio and a MPEG2 video encoding. My WMV has a wmapro, 5.1, 48000Hz audio and a wmv3 video encoding. Is there any free utility that will let me convert my WMV to VOB and keep the surround? If not, is there a free utility that will let me burn the DVD with the files I have? Thanks.

AvstoDVD my friend... (in my signature)

By far the best Mpeg-2 encoder that supports virtually all formats... (better than convertxtodvd)

drag and drop your video into avstodvd... (make sure all your settings are set by right clicking the video and going to edit)

Settings I reccomend for best quality are...

NTSC
HC Encoder 2 Pass
a 0.5 sharpness increase on all conversions... it gives it a very nice look...

Awesome! Worked perfectly. Now all I have to do is play it in the player hooked up to the surround to see if the surround will work.

great....

Ive been doing some quality tests overt the past few days and it actually seems that convertxtodvd comes out on top of quality now... so if you'd like give that program a try as well....

Okay, I will try that...I used AVStoDVD and set output to DVD folder. Then I used DVDStyler to make the menu and burn the DVD. Right now the quality looks pretty good except for some minor stretching from me setting aspect ratio to 16:9 instead of 4:3.

gotcha... tell me what you think looks better in the end result?

As far as I can tell convertxtodvd makes a much higher quality image...

(make sure the setting is always on HQ regarless of time)

A few more...

0.2 sharpening seems to be the sweet spot...

Thanks for your help: I'm going to continue to use the Vegas>AVStoDVD>DVDStyler method to make my videos.
