Solved: Erase CD files
Hi
I have a rewriteable CD and wish to reuse it. Windows refuses to delete the existing files as it says they are "Read Only".
Is there anything I can do besides binning the CD, or the computer!!
regards
phil

your burning program should have an erase option to erase the CD completely

Hi etaf
I have no dedicated CD burning program. Up till now Explorer and Windows Media player have coped with my needs.
I see there are a fair number of free downloads available would you, or anyone, else like to suggest a reliable one?
regards
phil

from help file
Quote:
Insert a blank CD-R or CD-RW disc into the CD burner. Or, insert a CD-RW disc that has files on it, and erase the contents of the disc by right-clicking the drive in the Navigation pane and then clicking Erase disc. (Erasing is required before you can burn to the disc again.)

Hi etaf
Wmp wont touch .doc files and it appears that this is also causing the problem in Explorer.
I will give your suggestion a try.

Hi
I did not get on too well with your link, after download the set up asked for Windows .NET 2 or higher and did I wish to download it now. I downloaded .NET4 and tried again but could not get past the same dialogue box.
If you have any other suggestions I will try them instead.
regards
phil

Hi again
While waiting I thought I would try a free download of Express burn by NCH software. It has erased the existing files, copied new ones to disk and then erased them as well.
The program seemed much slower than the Windows equivalent but it did work.
Not too sure about this for after the disk has been erased I tried Explorer expecting to see "Blank disk" but instead I got D:\ is not accessible, incorrect function. I ignored this and tried burning different data to the disk and it seemed to work OK.
Thank you for your help.
Regards
phil

and finalises OK to play on other machines

if everything works out OK then you can mark solved - button at top of post
