volume control compaq r3000 problem
I have a compaq r3000 laptop with xp (5ish years old) and the volume buttons have been malfunctioning recently. The volume up button now functions the same as the mute button and if i turn the volume up with the mouse it gradually lowers itself back down to 0.

I also am having problems highlighting and selecting text.. it only works occasionally.. which leads me to think I have a stuck button somewhere that is affecting both. I've tried taking apart the computer and looking at the volume keys and trying to loosen up any keys and can't figure out the problem. Any ideas? i'm trying to avoid getting a new computer as I dont use it for that much.. but not being able to play music is getting frustrating. If I can't fix it I'll probably buy a new one versus paying for help.. as this one is old anyway. what do ya think? thanks in advance!
