MP3 Tag edit programme required
After allowing my son to "clean up" my MP3 and Media player files I now find that, in addition to a few wrongly named tracks, a large number of the files in both Windows "My Music" and "Media Player" are now named 'MISC' under the Album tag.

As it would take ages to edit the tags individually through Properties can anyone suggest a simple free programme that would allow me to batch edit the Album tags in "My Music"?

Please dont suggest anything like Godfather as it is too complicated for me , even tho I have spent all weekend trying to fathom it out !!!!!

P.S. YES , IT ACTUALLY WAS MY SON, IT'S NOT AN EXCUSE !! http://static.techguy.org/smilies/mad.gif

What about just right clicking the file or group of flles and select Properties then click the Details tab. Then edit the info in the tag right in Windows Explorer. Easy and simple.

Try Mp3tag. If the album name is part of the filename then you could update the album tags from the filename.

If all the tracks for an album are in a folder with the album name you could update the tags from the folder.

I agree with you about the Godfather, it's overly complicated and not easy to work with.

At some stage I tried lawsons suggestion and it did.nt work for me. After trying it again and finding I could'nt get properties to change anything I realised that the file was Read Only.

I've tried and better tried to change the Attribute but it still stays at Read Only status so that is what has probably been causing me the grief.

I seem to recall reading about this problem some time in the past but can't remember the answer. I'm runni9ng Vista and UAC is switched off so have you any idea how I can "unlock" the Read Only ?

If you have a large number of files that you need to change try Attribute Changer.

Sounds a bit heavy for me , but, I think that article relates to applying a Read Only atribute to the folder whereas my prob is with the file attribute not switching off

It's 8:30 AM here.

Are you logged on as Administrator or as a user with Admin rights? I think you need Admin privileges to change file attributes.

SUCCESS !
It seems that when copying, MS sets up the files as read only. My ext HD files were therefore all Read only and when I made a copy from them the Read only attribute was transferred and also, "locked"
I went into the Ext HD, switched off Read Only and THEN made a copy which was OK.
Why it default swiches in one direction and not the other is beyomd me though.

Good, I'm glad you got it straightened out.

Now try using Mp3tag to fix the album tags and see how it goes.

Thanks for your help.I've downloaded it but have.nt had time to study it so at the moment I am working on the original suggestion of Properties> Details which seems to do the trick.
