Video Player Distortion
I play a lot of DVD's on my Dell 1705 laptop. I now experience severe video and audio distortion using WMP, Real Player, Interactive, etc. Until recently, I was able to use PowerDVD without a hitch but now I'm beginning to get some video and sound distortion on this player.

Mpegs, quicktime videos work just fine. Mp3 recordings work fine too.

Almost 5-year old Dell 1705, first generation dual core, Windows XP Pro, 1Mb ram.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Could be the DVD laser starting to fail; try copying the movie to your hard drive (use the free part of this) and see if you have the same problem playing it from there.

Given the age of the laptop I suspect the same. But I will try the software. Thank you.
