Unhappy Cant restore Ipod Nano
When I plug my Ipod Nano to my Dell Dimension 4400 desktop running on XPSP2, via USB, the Ipod battery charges. Then I get a popup reading 'USB device is not recognized' no matter what I do. In the device manager, it reads as an "Unknown Device" and the device status reads "No drivers are installed for this device". I tried to automatically update the drivers, but windows says it has the best driver. I’m able to use my Ipod and listed to all the previous music downloaded. I can’t add new music. Computer has 4 USB 2.0 ports. The ports work fine, I have a printer and an external hardrive connected to it.
I have tried connecting the Ipod to three different computers still does the same. I have re-installed Itunes and ipod reset utility, still no luck.

I bought a new USB cable, still no luck.

I tried the draining the battery task, it still does the same thing.

I would like to restore the ipod but it’s recognized in Itunes. Please help !!!

Any ideas? Thanks

The issue right now is that my desktop is not recognizing my iPod and it's driving me mad!! I think I have found the root cause. When I plug my iPod in and go to device manager....it comes up as "unknown device". I right click and device status says that there are no drivers for this device.
The message that keeps popping up is "Cannot complete hardware update....no suitable drivers were located that better fits the software already installed..."
Here's all the things i have done so far:
- purchased a new USB cord
- uninstalled/reinstalled itunes, ipod setup
- removed all itunes, ipod and quicktime
- cleaned out my temp files
- i have reset my system settings to a date prior to when i started having issues with my iPod
- tried in different computers same problem.
Any suggestions?? anyone with the same issue and solution??...any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. A wonderful Thanksgiving to everyone!!

i would try the factory default
Warning: because Restore erases all of the songs and files on iPod, make sure to back up any files you've saved on the iPod disk. All of your songs, videos, podcasts, audiobooks, and games can be loaded back to your iPod provided that you have them stored in your iTunes
