WMP Really Slow
I posted this in the past, but non on answered it.

Relatively new laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium, 2 gigs of memory and ATI Radeon HD3200.

Since I bought it, Windows Media Player 11 take a really long time to play videos and mp3's.

Especially videos/clips when they're an the large size.
It's like it's looking for it or somehow taking time loading it into it's memory or something ...
I don't know.

I wanted to uninstall it, and reinstall it, but can't figure out how.

Any ideas how to solve this?

Thanks!

If you want to uninstall and reinstall just go to the control panel and go add remove programs and remove it then download it again from microsofts website.

When you say long time to load I take it you mean its taking a long time to buffer it to a stage where its playable without pauses, perhaps your hard drive is bogged down?

Nope.

Windows Media Player 11 isn't in the add/remove list to uninstall.

And it's not buffering... I don't mean when playing streaming video...
I'm talking about videos clips downloaded onto my computer.
MP3's are the same. They take forever to start up.
Don't know why. Also, don't understand what you mean aboout my hard drive being "bogged down".
It's a new machine, which I clean with Tuneup Utiliities, CC Cleaner and a host of other maintenance progs, and I defrag it regularly.

So... any other ideas guys?

Thanks again!

still sounds to me like a buffering problem or its your hard drive thats it is taking time to access. But thats just my opnions, I cant say for sure without sitting infront of the machine.

I thought WMP was in add remove programs, I dont use it so, but if its not there go to control panel, add remove programs and go to the windows components button it will be under there and just uncheck it, althought I would check add/remove progs again I'm pretty sure its in there.

Nope.
It's not in the Windows Components thing either.
That's my problem.
Can't get rid of it to reinstall it.
As far as the harddrive goes, like I said... it's a new machine that I regularly maintain.
WMP has done this from day one since I bought it.
You click on an mp3 or a video ON the machine... not streaming... annd it takes forever to open.

Don't know what to do about it.

Anybody else out there with an idea?

Thanks again.

Have you tried downloading the install for WMP and tried running it? some installs will pick up on the fact its already installed and allow you the option to remove it, and Im pretty sure it has to be under add/remove programs have you looked at the name of each program installed?

Another option would be to just not use WMP personally I dont like it and there are much better audio/video players out there.

Apparently it DOES detect that I have it, and therefore won't allow any option to redownload or reinstall it.

And TRUST me... there is absolutely NO entry for Windows Media Player to be found in Add/Remove programs or the Windows Compnent thing (Which is now called "Turn Windows Features on or off".)

Not in Windows Vista Home Premium anyway.

I'm not exactly a "novice" either. Just new to Windows Vista Home Premium.

As far as other programs... I'm aware that there are other options out there, but I've used WMP for years for videos & mp3's, it USED to open up really fast if I wanted to play a song or vid clip (as opposed to waiting for other programs to fully load and go thru splash screens etc. like Media Monkey, Winamp, etc.)
It used to just... open and PLAY!
Not on this machine. Not in Windows Vista Home Premium.

And I'm one of those anal retentive people that if some feature on my machine is supposed to work... I don't rest untiil it does... yanno?

It boggles my mind!

What version of Windows do YOU have? If you have Vista... you tell ME where it is. LOL!

HELP!!! It's driving me nutz!

Thanks again!

Please dont get mad at me I am simply trying to help you have to rememeber Im not infront of your computer to help you with this so the information I provide is only as good as the information I receive.

http://www.vistax64.com/vista-music-...-11-vista.html

http://www.vistax64.com/vista-music-...ia-player.html

That links I have posted may help, as for me I use windows XP Pro SP3.

As for the Opening slowly I still think something is bogging down the system somewhere in some fashion but again without being infront of the machine I cant say for certian.

See... See... See... I TOLD you that you can't uninstall it!

Nyah!

(LOL!)

Well, I'm almost positive it's not a harddrive or hardware problem. But I did notiice a few glitchy things about this Windows install. Like stuff in the Media Center not working right and other tiny things.
Not enough for me to want to reinstall Vista tho.

Guess I'll have to live with it for now.

But at least you DID once and for all answer the question about being able to uninstall/reiinstall it for me.

Thanks again for all your efforts buddy!

Looks like we both learned something I now have another reason to add to my list of reasons as to why I dont like windows vista. I would not suggest reinstalling vista first I would say to try setting the process priority for WMP to above normal to see if that helps, just dont set it to real time as that will cause problems and cause everything else running to take an extreme back seat to the cpu usage.

To do this go ctrl alt del and go to processes and find the WMP process not sure what it is called as I dont use WMP should be something similar to its name then right-click it and go set priority.

Remmeber Im on XP not vista so your steps may be slightly different then mine.
