Solved: DVDs nor CDs will play on Laptop
When I had Vista on this laptop (HP Pavillion dv6000), DVDs wouldn't play on occasion. Now that I've upgraded to Windows 7, however, no DVD or CD will work :S
  • The disc still spins whilst in the slot.
  • I've already tried uninstalling the DVD drivers (or atleast what I think are the drivers: everything under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers? I might be wrong) in Device Manager.
  • I've already deleted the Upper and Lower Filters in Registry.
  • I only have two disk drives/folders in My Computer (when a DVD is popped in and when it isn't): (C) and HP_RECOVERY (D).

All my drivers are up-to-date; however, I fear that the problem here lies with compatibility issues with Windows 7.

Am I missing something or does it look like I'm in need of a new DVD drive that's compatible with Windows 7?

There are many dv6000s, so we neeed a better model number:

Are you sure this model is compatible with Win7? 32 bit or 64 bit?
This shouldn't be a driver issue.

Well when I type my p/n into the HP website, it tells me that there are no driver downloads for my operating system. I have Windows 7 (32-bit), and it's a HP Pavilion dv6820ea.

This is not a compatibility problem.
What version of Win7 do you have and how did you get it?

Replace the drive, which has probably failed.

These drives are crap (LG junk). I have a pair of DV8000's, same issue. I use external burners, either Samsung or Pioneer. Problem solved.
