I found the following post that i believe explains that the .ram file is not a playable file, but rather a pointer to the location of the file for streaming audio....

Like the RAM (.ram) file extension. M3U files only contain the information leading to the actual location (local directory or remote/hyperlink) of the audio file; a .mp3 file.

Hope this helps...Rhett

Oh Yea !
If you have a fast connection, here is a program that will download streaming audio as mp3

Well, I tried out that software and it doesn't support the stream I'm downloading. I am able to save the .ram files to my HD and then play them with realplayer when not connected to the Internet. What I'd like to do is find a way to convert those files to mp3 files so I can play them on a portable mp3 player or convert to .wav for CD burning.

I found this...
looks like RealOne player will convert them. If you go to the site listed in the link, you will see a link on the right for the free version...

Talking SOLVED
Realplayer wants credit card info for their software....so screw that! But the good news is that the software on zdnet (advanced mp3/wma recorder) worked great. Thanks for everyone's responses to my question. Peace!
