Question My laptop won't stay connected to my home wireless
Hi,
I'm having trouble getting my laptop to stay connected to my wireless internet. This problem only occurs with my laptop (other laptops in the house are able to connect no problem) and with this particular wireless box (my laptop has no problems connecting and staying connected to other wireless networks, wi-fi, etc.).

I am able to connect to the wireless but it lasts only for a few minutes before connection is lost, so I basically have to connect to the internet through a ether cable (?) plugged into the wireless box.

I can't work out where the problem could be as the wireless works for other computers, and my computer works with other wireless networks!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't know if it matters but I am using a Toshiba satellite running on Windows 7. Thanks!

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector and show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Before gathering that trouble shooting info make sure you have the latest wireless driver. Get the driver from your laptop manufacturer's web site if the adapter is integrated.

Thanks! I downloaded an updated wireless driver from the Toshiba website and installed it but to no avail.

I hope I've done this right!

You didn't have a connection at the time of the Xirrus or ipconfig /all. But, you do get a connection for minutes at a time, right?

Is that first network listed yours? Try with encryption disabled to see if that's any better.

It will conect sometimes, but today only with the ethernet cable. The first network is mine and I'm sorry but I don't know what you mean by 'try with encryption disabled'!

Login to the router and set the encryption (or security) mode to 'none' or 'off' or 'disabled' or similar.

I don't think those other wireless networks are strong enough to interfere, but you might try channel 3 just to be sure.
