I am running windows 7 on an Imac and my mac partition connects to the internet fine but my windows partition disconnects randomly, then I repair it and then it's fine for a few hours. I got a new router and disabled avast but it still drops me. After I repair it says the problem is something about the ip address. Any sugestions?

BTW- I'm dirrect connected so no wifi.

I'll post the repair message i get word for word once it disconnects again.

Possibly the ethernet driver is corrupted. In Device Manager uninstall the ethernet; then reboot and let Windows discover the adapter and reinstall the driver.

Also, the following repairs may help ...

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista or 7.

Start - All Programs - Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

I'll try all that, just did it all actually so we will see. The error message I get that windows repairs every time is "local area connection doesn't have a valid ip config"

It did not work. Still disconnects.

Only other thing I can think of is maybe the driver is incorrect. I would suspect a hardware defect except that I believe the same router port, cable and NIC works with the other OS.
